MANDATORY FUEL SURCHARGE IN EFFECT FROM THE 7TH OF APRIL 2026
South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG) has implemented a mandatory fuel surcharge to take effect for customers travelling on all resort transfer services as well as applicable day trips from the 7th of April 2026, and until further notice.
SSCG takes this opportunity to inform trade, industry partners, and customers alike that the retail price of diesel fuel in Fiji as of the 1st of April 2026 is now 35% higher than the price of diesel fuel in March 2026. This increase as of the 1st of April 2026 is the first such fuel price increase incurred in Fiji since the sharp rise in oil prices experienced globally over the past month or so. The April 2026 price is now $2.89 (VIP) per litre.
SSCG takes this opportunity to highlight that our current transfer rates were set in mid-2025 and could not factor in the current increase in global oil prices. SSCG therefore reserves the right to implement a fuel surcharge as and when fuel prices increase beyond sustainable levels, which is now the case.
The applicable fuel surcharges in effect are for customers travelling with South Sea Cruises & South Sea Cats as of the 7th of April 2026 are as follows:
Customers travelling with South Sea Cruises & South Sea Cats on all other day trips are currently exempt from paying the fuel surcharge due to mostly travelling shorter distances or operating with less reliance on fuel than our resort transfer services.
Customers travelling with South Sea Cruises & South Sea Cats from Port Denarau will be asked to pay the applicable fuel surcharge for all future sectors booked whilst at check-in and prior to boarding pass(es) being issued.
Customers who are only travelling with South Sea Cruises & South Sea Cats on an inbound sector from their island resort will be asked to pay the fuel surcharge upon boarding our vessels and before they return to Port Denarau.
Customers can choose to either pay the fuel surcharge via international debit card, or with a credit card, noting that international cards do attract a 2.5% – 3% admin fee.
SSCG would like to thank the trade, our industry partners, and our customers alike for understanding the need to recover these increased fuel costs. We also ask that our Terms & Conditions are noted as follows:
“South Sea Cruises reserves the right to alter prices, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport, and vary itineraries and services if necessary.”
SSCG are committed to reviewing the fuel surcharge applicable to South Sea Cruise & South Sea Cats services each month and will do so again on the 1st of May 2026. We do expect fuel prices to only further increase in May 2026 and as such a review of the fuel surcharge will likely occur whereby a further increase in fuel surcharges is a possibility. Until such time that review takes place and is further communicated, the surcharges within this notice remain applicable.
Lastly, and for those who aren’t already aware, the price of fuel in Fiji is set by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC) and is only amended on the first day of each month. The price of fuel in Fiji is based on a range of factors globally but most noticeably by movement in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS) oil market, international freight rates, the availability of fuel, and foreign exchange rates. The price of fuel in Fiji is often 1-2 months behind oil prices in other global markets such as Australia, New Zealand and North America, and hence cannot be compared with countries who adjust their fuel prices on an almost daily basis.
All fuel surcharges stated are in FJD and include applicable Government taxes.
SSCG thanks all trade, industry partners and customers alike for your understanding and acceptance of the above.
Vinaka,
South Sea Cruises Group.
