FUEL SURCHARGE

MANDATORY FUEL SURCHARGE IN EFFECT

APPLICABLE FOR TRAVEL FROM THE 1st OF SEPTEMBER 2026

1st of September 2026

South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG) provide this important update regarding the mandatory fuel surcharge first introduced in April 2026.

Despite a further increase to Fiji’s fuel prices as of the 1st of September 2026, SSCG will maintain will retain the current fuel surcharges set in August 2026, and which will now be valid until a further review is undertaken in early October 2026.

Why is the mandatory fuel surcharge in place?

The price of diesel fuel in Fiji as of the 1st of September 2026 is some 46% higher than before the global oil supply was disrupted due to events in the Middle East. The continuation of higher-than-expected fuel prices into September 2026 cannot be absorbed within our current rates.

Importantly for those who aren’t aware, Fiji’s fuel prices are set by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC) and is only ever amended on the first day of each month (the most recent amendment being effective the 1st of September 2026). The price of fuel in Fiji is based on a range of factors globally but most noticeably by movement in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS) gasoil market, the availability of fuel from foreign suppliers, international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates. Fiji’s fuel prices are always 1-2 months behind fuel prices in other global markets such as Australia, New Zealand and North America, and hence cannot be compared with countries who adjust their fuel prices on an almost daily basis and which have seen the price of fuel vary different to that of Fiji’s fuel prices.

The mandatory fuel surcharge rates (on a per person based) effective for travel from the 1st of September 2026 and until further notice is as follows:
