7 Best Activities for Solo Travellers in Fiji

Travelling Solo in Fiji? Here are the most recommended activities

Fiji is an ideal destination for solo travellers. Its welcoming culture, beautiful islands, and wide range of activities make it easy to enjoy time alone while also meeting fellow travellers along the way.

Whether you are looking for adventure, relaxation, or meaningful cultural experiences, here are seven of the best activities to enjoy on a solo trip to Fiji.

1. Go Island Hopping in the Yasawas

Island hopping is one of the best ways to experience Fiji as a solo traveller. The Yasawa Islands offer a combination of palm-fringed beaches, clear lagoons, traditional villages, and relaxed island resorts.

Travelling between islands also gives you plenty of opportunities to meet other visitors. Shared transfers, group activities and resort excursions make it easy to connect with people without needing to organise everything independently.

With Yasawa Adventures Fiji, you can explore several islands while enjoying the convenience of organised accommodation, transfers and activities.

2. Snorkel in Fiji’s Tropical Waters

Fiji is famous for its coral reefs and colourful marine life. Snorkelling is an accessible activity for solo travellers because you can enjoy it independently or as part of a guided group.

Look out for:

  • Bright tropical fish
  • Coral gardens
  • Sea turtles
  • Reef sharks
  • Manta rays and other marine life

Many island resorts offer equipment hire and guided snorkelling trips. Joining an excursion is a great option if you would prefer company or want local insight into the best nearby spots.

3. Swim with Manta Rays

For an unforgettable experience, consider joining a manta ray excursion in the Yasawa Islands from May to October on certain days and tides.

Swimming alongside these graceful animals can be a highlight of any Fiji holiday. Guided trips are especially suitable for solo travellers, as they provide equipment, local knowledge and the reassurance of exploring the water with an experienced team.

Manta ray sightings depend on natural conditions, so they cannot be guaranteed—but the surrounding reefs and tropical scenery make the experience worthwhile either way.

4. Visit a Fijian Village

A village visit offers a chance to learn more about Fiji’s history, traditions, and everyday life. Depending on the experience, you may have the opportunity to:

  • Meet local families
  • Learn about traditional customs
  • Participate in a kava ceremony
  • Visit a community centre or school
  • Discover local crafts and food

Remember to dress modestly and follow local guidance when visiting a village. Showing respect for Fijian customs helps ensure that cultural experiences are enjoyable and meaningful for both visitors and communities.

5. Hike to a Scenic Viewpoint

The Yasawa Islands are home to dramatic landscapes, rolling hills and beautiful coastal viewpoints. A short hike can provide a welcome break from the beach and reward you with panoramic views across the islands and ocean.

Solo travellers should always check the route, weather, and conditions before setting out. It is also sensible to tell resort staff where you are going, carry water, and avoid hiking alone in extreme heat.

For a more social experience, join a guided walk or invite fellow travellers from your accommodation to come along.

6. Relax on a Secluded Beach

Solo travel does not have to be packed with activities. One of the greatest pleasures of visiting Fiji is having time to slow down.

Spend an afternoon:

  • Reading beneath a palm tree
  • Swimming in calm lagoon waters
  • Listening to the waves
  • Taking photographs
  • Enjoying a beachfront meal
  • Watching the sunset

The peaceful atmosphere of the Yasawas makes it easy to enjoy your own company and take a break from busy routines.

7. Join a Group Water or Adventure Activity

Group activities are an excellent way for solo travellers to meet people while trying something new. Depending on the island and conditions, options may include:

  • Kayaking
  • Paddleboarding
  • Fishing
  • Sailing
  • Scuba diving
  • Reef excursions
  • Beach volleyball
  • Island cooking or craft activities

Shared experiences often lead to new friendships, and many travellers find that organised activities are one of the easiest ways to connect while travelling alone.
